Visual Connections, LLC have an exciting opportunity for an Azure Data Engineer/SQL Developer to join our team in McLean, VA.  You will be hands-on performing DB management tasks and responsible for delivering a high-quality application with strong emphasis on data security and system performance.

Essential Job Function

  • Design, implement, and support SQL Server databases (2016, 2019, 2022) across Azure and on-premises environments to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune database performance through effective indexing strategies, query optimization, and proactive issue resolution.

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Pipelines.

  • Apply data modeling best practices, including OLTP and OLAP architectures, star schemas, and normalization techniques, to support analytics and transactional workloads.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain relational data models, stored procedures, and complex SQL workloads in SQL Server and Azure SQL Database.

  • Architect and implement enterprise data solutions leveraging Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Synapse Analytics, and other Azure-native data services.

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues across multiple system tiers, including application, database, and server layers.

  • Implement automation solutions using scheduled jobs, scripts, and other tools to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across application, database, and server tiers.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional development teams to design, review, and deliver high-quality software solutions.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related degree and 7 years of experience as a Database Engineer.

  • ​The ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust with the Federal government is mandatory.

  • Please note that employer-based sponsorship is not available for this role. Legal permanent residents must have maintained residency status in the United States for a minimum of the past three years. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL/T-SQL and SQL Server databases, ADF, and Fabric.

  • Experience managing complex database environments.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within an Agile development team.

  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools - such as Azure DevOps etc.

  • Familiarity with Azure Web Apps.

  • Microsoft certified: Azure fundamentals or related cloud certifications.

  • Strong customer service/client facing skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
